The death penalty should be abolished. Some crimes are atrocious. Victims and their families suffer immensely. Still, executing people, even those whose guilt is beyond a shadow of doubt, is wrong.

| We had a lively exchange about many of the issues that will be discussed and decided during the legislative session. A huge Thank You to our knowledgeable panelists, who provided insightful views into what to expect during Montana’s 2025 Legislative Session.Former Legislator Jon Ellingson reviewed the property tax fiasco from the past session and how homeowners subsidized a tax cut for large corporations. He also previewed Governor Gianforte’s plan to cut taxes AGAIN for Montana’s very wealthy; and looked at the growing gap in family wealth between the wealth classes.Mary Sheehy Moe discussed the constitutional requirements around Montana’s public education system, and potential threats posed by the 2025 legislature. She also outlined the various attacks on Montana’s independent Judicial Branch that will continue coming from the legislature.Sen. Emma Kerr-Carpenter discussed the importance of continuing Medicaid’s coverage for Montanans and Medicaid’s importance as an economic engine in Montana. She also discussed some of the inner political workings of the legislature and how she sees those playing out this session.Big Sky 55+ Lobbyist Margie MacDonald discussed ways in which Big Sky 55+ will keep our members informed and involved in the legislative session, through traditional media outlets and communications directly from the organization. |
